Fifth Anniversary

I finally got to drive the new Sequoia today. We went to our usual Saturday breakfast and then we went shopping for Abby a new car seat. Her current one really dug into the Camry’s back seat and we want to get a new one that doesn’t mess up the new truck.

The Longhorns once again couldn’t defeat OU. They lost 12-0 and it was the first time that they had been shut out since 1980. They really didn’t look that good at all. It appears that they still haven’t learned to tackle. Their offense looked very one dimensional: either Young would hand off to Benson or he would keep it. It wasn’t until the forth quarter that a wide receiver caught the ball.

The Texas loss was very disappointing, but was made better by the Astros beating the Braves to go up in the NL Division series 2-1. If they win tomorrow, they will be advancing to the NL Championship for the first time ever.

Tonight we celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary by going out to eat at The Melting Pot. We left the girls across the street with Jane, Lucas, and Connor. We called for a reservation earlier in the day, but they said that they were booked solid. Since we weren’t in a hurry we decided to go ahead and go to the restaurant and take our chances. It turned out that we were seated immediately anyway and in a very secluded booth which was off by itself. So, we had a great dinner and reminisced about the last five years.

Friday Night Lights

Today started out the morning with the whole family sitting in the new Sequoia watching the first part of Toy Story. We wanted to give the new TVs in the truck a test run. While watching the THX intro to the movie we realized that we have a better sound system in our new truck than in our living room. The sound moved from speaker to speaker and sounded really good.

Today at work we celebrated Tiburon’s Tenth Anniversary with a happy hour at the end of the day. We had drinks and appetizers and they had all of Tiburon’s old games setup so that people could play them. I was able to meet one of the founders of Tiburon, Jason Anderson, who I’ve only talked to over e-mail. He left Tiburon to start his own company, Budcat, right before I joined Tiburon. They’ve been one of our external developers and I help field some of their questions as they worked on the PC version of Madden NFL 2005.

Finally, Tiburon paid for us to go see Friday Night Lights, a high school football movie that takes place in Texas. It’s the story of Odessa Permian High School and their fight for the football championship in 1988. I didn’t really think it was a very good movie. The characters were pretty weak and way to stereotypical. The only good thing about it was it’s portrayal of football in a small Texas town was pretty accurate.

New Sequoia

The dealership called today and our Sequoia had arrived. So, we left the kids across the street at Jane’s house and we went off to pick up the truck. It was a several hour ordeal, as is always the case when you purchase a car. Afterwards, we walked out with our new Sequoia. Of coarse, I haven’t driven it yet as Jennifer drove the truck home. As you can see from the picture, the Sequoia barely fits into the garage. We might have to do some rearranging so we can fit both cars. I had to say goodbye to my Chevy Blazer which I bought when I graduated from college. I also had a Chevy Blazer in high school, so I’ve been driving a truck for 16 years and now I have to get used to driving a car every day. I will be posting more pictures of the Sequoia for the next few days.

Astros Win, Tiburon Loses

Today was a good day for baseball and a horrible day for softball. The Astros defeated the Braves in the first game of the National League Division Series 9-3. Roger Clemens pitched a great game with seven strike outs in seven innings pitched.

Tonight was our third loss at softball as we were crushed 16-2. I went 2-3 fielding. I bobbled one ball hit my way, but two others ending with outs. I also went 1-2 batting. The other team had a huge inning where they scored 14 runs. We weren’t really doing anything wrong, they were just laying down good hits.

Mattress With a Little Less Soft, Please

This morning we were called by our neighbor, Jane, Lucas and Connor’s mom. Her air conditioning had leaked all over her floor just like ours did. The thing is she had just had it serviced when she moved in a few months ago, so it seems weird that it would be the same thing as what was wrong with ours.

Today the Original Mattress Company came and picked up our king sized bed in order to make it not as soft. We were having problems with our mattress where it was continuously making body impressions into the mattress even though we were flipping it every other week. Finally the handle broke on the side of the mattress and we called them in to fix it. After Jennifer complained that we were having to flip it so often because of the body impressions, they informed us that they have a year “comfort guarantee”. So, they picked up the mattress today and will return it on Thursday with a little less padding.

Today’s picture is of “Emily the Explorer” as she has been attacked by rings that have attached themselves to her arms. Hopefully she will be able to find the ring extractor from her handy dandy backpack.

Trying to Get Rid of Some Paint

I spent Sunday driving around trying to find a place to dump the paint that was left in our garage by the previous owners of our house. I checked the Seminole County web site to find out where I could drop off the paint and they said a transfer station, which was closer into town, wasn’t open on Sunday and the only place to drop it off was the county dump. So, I drove 45 minutes out to the dump. I was driving out in areas that look like they were hit pretty hard by the last hurricane. I saw a few house boats which were capsized or half way in the water. Anyway, once I got there they told me they were not taking paint because their recycle center was damaged by one of the hurricanes. However, they said that the transfer station was open today. Great. I drove 45 minutes out of my way, when I could have driven 10 minutes to the transfer station. The good news is that the paint is gone.

Making Room for the Sequoia

The Texas Longhorns defeated the Baylor Bears 44-14 today.  They are looking pretty good, but it’s hard to say against such weak opponents. We are only one week away from the true test: #2 Oklahoma.

We spent the afternoon cleaning out the garage to make a little more room for the new Sequoia. The last owners of our house left a ton of paint in the garage. We went through them and loaded the ones we want to throw away into my truck. I’m going to take them to the dump tomorrow.

Tonight we watched Ocean’s Eleven. It was pretty good. It has some slow parts in the middle, but seeing the plan all come together at the end of the movie was cool.

Borie

Tonight Jennifer went to a scrapbooking party with some of the women from church, leaving me with the kids. Once she was gone, Emily sat down and watched TV while Abby and I kick around this little toy soccer ball. Once Emily went to bed, Abby and I went upstairs and she watched me play a new game I got the other day Sly 2.

I’m currently watching the Dodgers and Giants play baseball. I was surprised the other day when I saw that the Astros were suddenly in the lead of the National League Wild Card race. The Giants and Astros are tied for the wild card spot and the Astros won today so if the Giants lose, the Astros will be the sole owners of the wild card spot with two games left to play.

Today’s picture is of Emily with a Dora backpack. Emily has become obsessed with watching Dora the Explorer. This is amazing because Abby didn’t really start liking that show until she was around three years old. She doesn’t quite know how to say “Dora” yet, so she says something more like “Borie” when she sees Dora on the TV or when she dances to the theme song.

Presents from Aunt Marci

Today started with Jennifer and the girls going to the YMCA. We’ve been trying to go every Tuesday and Thursday morning and I was supposed to get up early and go before work, but it was hard getting out of bed after softball last night.

Today we received a present for Abby and Emily in the mail from Aunt Marci. She sent two flashlights, one shaped like a tiger and one like a hippopotamus. The girls loved the presents and played with them all afternoon.

We are currently watching the Presidential Debate. We are still undecided on who we are going to vote for. We don’t feel invading Iraq was the right thing to do, but on the other hand we really don’t like Kerry and his plans. We are still waiting to hear something from either candidate which will point us towards one of them. So far, no luck.

Today’s picture is of Emily sitting at the computer in the kitchen. She’s starting to say “cheese” when you point a camera in her direction. She also demanded to eat cheese for breakfast this morning and threw herself on the ground when I told her no.

Second Softball Loss

We once again lost our softball game 13-11. I don’t think we played as well as last week, but we still hung in there. I was 0-2 with a walk and a run. My first two times at bat, I didn’t really get very good pitches and I ended up popping them up. So, the next time I was up to bat I just made him pitch to me and he ended up walking me. I didn’t really have any balls hit in my direction at second base. We were in a seventh inning rally when the batter flew out to the outfield. We had a runner on third who tagged up and then came on it. The umpire called the runner out because he didn’t see him tag up before running home. Our coach confronted the umpire who’s response was, “He tagged up?” Usually you don’t want questions from the umpires. You usually want, “The runner is out. I clearly saw him take off before the ball was caught.” That didn’t happen. So, that was the last out of the game. You never want a game to end of a call from the umpire. We’ve been close in both games we played. Perhaps we will win next week.

Meanwhile, on the other end of town, Jennifer took Abby to a kids group at church called Kid’s Connection. They have classes where they do crafts and play games. Abby had fun while Emily played in the nursery and Jennifer helped a Girl Scout troop which meets at the church on Wednesday. They came by the softball field after they were done, but they got there too early. I wasn’t scheduled to start my game for another hour.
