Halloween 2006

The girls came up to work today for some trick-or-treating. On Halloween Tiburon allows everyone’s kids to come up and go from desk to desk and get candy. We traveled around the floor I work on and Madden’s floor and took away a truck load of candy. “The Three Princesses” we very cute running from cubicle to cubicle. Well, it was more like Abby and Emily running and Isabelle bringing up the rear.

After work we headed home for some trick-or-treating around the neighborhood. Since we had such a haul at my work, Jennifer only took the girls to a few houses while I stayed at home and handed out candy. After they were done, Abby and Emily were excited to help me pass out the candy. There wasn’t a very big turn out in our neighborhood. We only had about a dozen people come to the door for candy.

Dark Tower V: Wolves of the Calla

I finally finished the fifth book of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, Wolves of the Calla. It was really good and really long. I was amazed that a bulk of the book had nothing to do with the actual “Wolves”. Roland and his ka-tet come across a town where all children born are twins, one boy and one girl. Every twenty years or so, a group of riders in wolf masks take away one of the twins and they come back “roont”, or retarded. The town begs Roland’s group to help and they do. In the town, they meet Father Callahan from Salem’s Lot who leads them to a way to help save the rose in the abandoned lot in New York, the doorway to their quest to save The Dark Tower and all of existence. The book is a whopping 900 pages long and it took me quite a while (four months) to finish, but it was well worth it.

Texans 2-0 Against Florida Teams

I’m stunned. The Houston Texans actually pulled out a win and this season they are 2-0 against Florida teams. Unfortunately they are 0-4 against non-Florida teams. Today they beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 27-7 in the best offensive showing from Houston to date. Carr has been looking impressive and it looks like they finally have a running back that can pick up some yards in Wali Lundy. Now if Mario Williams can just start energizing the defense. The Texans have a long way to go, but it’s always nice to have a win.

The Terminal

Tonight we watched The Terminal staring Tom Hanks. We didn’t realize it was a Steven Spielberg movie until I was about to pop it into the DVD player. Both of us really like this movie. Hanks plays a man stuck in a terminal when there is a coup in his home country and the United States doesn’t recognize his passport. He is forced to stay at the airport until the war is over in his country. As I mentioned we both really like the movie and recommend it. Tom Hanks is great, as always. It’s amazing how well he can play different characters, this one from a former Russian country who barely speaks English.

Longhorns Win a Close One

The Longhorns pulled out a nail biting win against the Nebraska Cornhuskers today, 22-20. It wasn’t looking good, down 20-19, when the Longhorns caused a fumble with less than two minutes to go. They drove down the field and kicked the game winning field goal with 20 seconds left in the game. The Longhorns dominated most of the game and it wasn’t until the end of the third quarter that the Cornhuskers became energized, perhaps it was the snow that started to fall. Anyway, Colt McCoy rallied them and drove down the field. It was the most exciting Longhorn game since the National Championship.

Week of Birthdays

Today we went to a former neighbor’s birthday party. I say former neighbor because they used to live two houses down from us, but moved over into another neighborhood. They have a daughter who was turning four and she used to play with Abby and Emily. It was a “princess” party, so Abby and Emily got dressed up in their princess outfits and ran around with the other princesses around the kingdom. Activities included getting your fingers painted, as seen in today’s picture. Fun was had by all. I could tell because of the random high pitched squeals, which is typical of a princess party, I suppose.

It was an active week for birthdays. Abby had a classmate have a party on Wednesday and Emily had a classmate have a party last Sunday. This has left us wondering what we are going to do for Abby’s sixth birthday, which is coming up real quick.

Parent’s Night Out

On Monday Jennifer and I had our seventh wedding anniversary. We didn’t do much on Monday because Jennifer had her photography class. Also, for the first time ever, EA Tiburon had a “parent’s night out” on Friday. All the kids of employees came up to work and they had hired a company to watch all of them while the parent escaped for a night out of the town. They had crafts and watched Finding Nemo on our giant projection screen. We took all the girls up there and then Jennifer and I went to our favorite “date” restaurant: The Melting Pot.

Texas once again crushed Baylor, this year 63-31. It wasn’t looking good when Baylor jumped to a 10-0 lead, but I had faith that Texas would come back. there was no way that Baylor would beat us. The defense once again looked great. They stepped up and caused turnovers, two of which they brought back for touchdowns. Florida lost, so that should move Texas one step closer to a rematch with Ohio State in the National Championship.

Collateral

Jennifer and I watched Collateral off of our Netflix queue tonight. This movie stars Jamie Foxx as a cab driver who picks up a hitman played by Tom Cruise. Cruise forces Foxx to drive from hit to hit at gun point. Overall, I didn’t find the movie all that good. It took a very long time before it became interesting. Maybe it’s just hard to picture Cruise in the “bad guy” role. Jennifer didn’t like it at all and felt it just didn’t go anywhere.

Texas Beats OU

Texas stepped up once again this year to take out OU 28-10. I was pretty worried at half time. Texas wasn’t looking very good in the first half and OU was winning 10-7. Mack Brown must have said something good at half time because Texas came back out like a new team.

Is it me or is the instant replay in college football this year the most annoying thing ever. It seems like every play is being reviewed. It slows down the game. Just let the kids play the game. There were a few controversial decisions in the game. Is Bob Stoops going to complain about this game as well and get these refs fired too? College football needs to go back to the old way or at least do it the same as NFL: two coach challenges and booth challenges in the last two minutes.

I used to change Frenchville orange, but the theme that I have doesn’t support that all that easily, so I’m going to be changing the header to a Texas logo for a win.
