Trying to Get Rid of Some Paint

I spent Sunday driving around trying to find a place to dump the paint that was left in our garage by the previous owners of our house. I checked the Seminole County web site to find out where I could drop off the paint and they said a transfer station, which was closer into town, wasn’t open on Sunday and the only place to drop it off was the county dump. So, I drove 45 minutes out to the dump. I was driving out in areas that look like they were hit pretty hard by the last hurricane. I saw a few house boats which were capsized or half way in the water. Anyway, once I got there they told me they were not taking paint because their recycle center was damaged by one of the hurricanes. However, they said that the transfer station was open today. Great. I drove 45 minutes out of my way, when I could have driven 10 minutes to the transfer station. The good news is that the paint is gone.

Today’s picture is of Emily trying to floss her teeth.

Borie

Tonight Jennifer went to a scrapbooking party with some of the women from church, leaving me with the kids. Once she was gone, Emily sat down and watched TV while Abby and I kick around this little toy soccer ball. Once Emily went to bed, Abby and I went upstairs and she watched me play a new game I got the other day Sly 2.

I’m currently watching the Dodgers and Giants play baseball. I was surprised the other day when I saw that the Astros were suddenly in the lead of the National League Wild Card race. The Giants and Astros are tied for the wild card spot and the Astros won today so if the Giants lose, the Astros will be the sole owners of the wild card spot with two games left to play.

Today’s picture is of Emily with a Dora backpack. Emily has become obsessed with watching Dora the Explorer. This is amazing because Abby didn’t really start liking that show until she was around three years old. She doesn’t quite know how to say “Dora” yet, so she says something more like “Borie” when she sees Dora on the TV or when she dances to the theme song.

Preparing for Jeanne

The day started off with our weekly visit to Peach Valley Cafe for breakfast and then I was off to softball practice. Since both Tiburon softball teams lost last week, everyone thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and have another practice this morning. I was able to get some more batting and fielding practice, so I thought it was good to go ahead and go out. We had about thirteen people show up, which is about half of the people who are on the softball teams.

The afternoon was used to prepare for hurricane Jeanne. My preparation consists of bringing in the grill, garden hose, and wheel barrow and placing them in the garage. It’s been cloudy with occasional sprinkles all day. We are supposed to start feeling the effects of the hurricane tonight around 2:00 in the morning with the eye of the storm getting to us around noon tomorrow. I will report tomorrow on how we faired in the storm.

Just finished watching Texas pretty much roll all over Rice tonight 35-13. Wasn’t really a good match up. Next week is Baylor and then the following weekend, or wedding anniversary, Texas plays Oklahoma. Can Texas beat OU for the first time since the day that we were married?

Last of Day of Chaos

Today was a pretty busy day. It started off with softball practice. I’ve joined the Tiburon softball team. We have so many people we are actually going to have two teams. In fact, the first game is between the two Tiburon teams. I could tell that it had been four years since I had played softball, especially when it came to batting.

While I was at softball practice, the guys working on the floor came and finished off the trim work and helped get the furniture back in place. The floor is finally complete and is looking good. We still need to get all the baseboards painted and Jennifer is currently looking for someone to come in and do that.

After lunch Lucas and Connor’s mom finally arrived and took the boys home. Ahhh, silence. It has been so much more quiet around the house. For the most part they were good, but I’m not looking forward to trying that again.

Tonight was the draft for a fantasy football league that I’m in being run by a friend, Tom Carbone. I usually play in a league for money with an old friend from Houston, Tom Kent, but I decided I really didn’t have time to devote a lot of time to fantasy football this year. Tom convinced me to play when he said that his league was “just for fun”. His two sons are even playing in the league. We are also using the new fantasy football web site being run by EA Sports. We got free accounts since we work for EA.

Finally, Texas narrowly beat out Arkansas 22 – 20 tonight. It was a great game, close the whole time and a nail biter all the way to the end. A fumble by Arkansas near the end cost them the game.

Universal Studios

On Monday I took off from work and George and I went to Universal Studios. I had never been since we always felt that the girls were too young for Universal and that Disney World was more appropriate for them. By far the best ride we went on was the brand new Revenge of the Mummy ride. We discovered the “single rider” line which allowed us to ride it four times before leaving. Another good area was the Terminator 2: 3D show. I had been wanting to see this since it came out several years ago. We also saw Twister, Earthquake, Back to the Future, and Men In Black.

Today is Jennifer’s mother’s birthday. Happy Birthday, Grandma. Today’s picture is of Abby and Grandma decorating a birthday cake for Jennifer when they were visiting this summer.

Emily in the Playroom with a Cycling Trophy

Today started off with us all going to Peach Valley Cafe once again for breakfast. The girls are doing better and better each time we go. This time they sat at the table without much fuss at all. Maybe we can start expanding this to lunch and dinner. We’ll have to see, but I’m skeptical.

This afternoon I picked up George from the airport. He’s in town for training as part of his job with PriceWaterhouseCoopers. He came in a couple of days early so that he could visit. I’m going to take off from work tomorrow and we are going to go to Universal Studios.

Today’s picture is from about a year ago when Abby and Emily were better friends. It turns out that Emily has had enough of Abby’s torture as of late. Poppy had given Abby a cycling trophy when they visited this summer. Today Emily took the trophy and whacked Abby on top of the head with the marble base. No blood was shed, and Emily was sorry that she hit her sister on the head.

Here Come the Storms

Today started off with a trip to the dentist for Jennifer. She found out that the sealants on her teeth have failed and she’s starting to get cavities on her teeth. The dentist said that she has six cavities that are starting to form. We’ve decided to do nothing for now. Jennifer said her teeth aren’t bothering her and the cavities are just now starting to form.

After her appointment, we met at the frame shop because it’s time to get my latest game framed. Every year I get the game I’ve worked on framed. The cover and the DVD are mounted with a suede mat and black metal frame. This year will be the first time I have four different covers and DVD’s all in one frame.

We found out today that two tropical storms are heading towards Florida. Bonnie is going to hit the pan handle and shouldn’t affect us much. Charlie, which will become a hurricane before it hits landfall, is looking like it is going to go right over the top of us. Jennifer went to Target today and stocked up on some water and batteries for our flashlights. I will, of course, have daily updates on what happens to us during the tropical storms. Hopefully Frenchville won’t blow away.

It was actually nice outside after dinner and we went on a walk around the neighborhood. It’s amazing how it could be unbearably humid one day and then pleasant the next day. I guess that’s Florida for you. It’s probably the calm before the storms.

New Tires

Got new tires from Discount Tire Company for my truck today. Instead of waiting at the place, Jennifer picked me up and I went and test drove the Toyota Sequoia. Much nicer than the Honda Pilot that I test drove the other day. The Sequoia drove much more like my Blazer, but with a little better acceleration, more like our Camry. I liked it and hopefully we can get one before the end of the year for our trip to Texas.

Tonight, Jennifer went out to eat to The Cheesecake Factory with a bunch of the wives from work. She had a pretty good time visiting and getting away from the kids for a while.

Today’s picture is from when we picked up Marci from the airport the other day. There is a fountain inside the airport and Emily was mesmerized by the water.

Night On the Town

The morning started out with a trip to New Smyrna Beach with Aunt Marci. We all packed into the car early and we were there by 10:00. While we were there, we flew a kite. Today’s picture is of me helping Emily keep a hold of the kite. We all had fun sitting near the shore and letting the waves crash over us. Near the end, Abby and I went deep into the water and jumped in the waves together.

When we got back, Jennifer and I got ready for our night on the town. We took Marci up on her offer to watch the kids while we went out. We went to eat at Fleming’s Steak House in Winter Park. It was very good and very expensive. It’s one of those places where the steak is so good it melts in your mouth. We had a four course meal with a cheese tray as a appetizer, salad, steak with baked potato, and “Chocolate Lava” for desert. It was all very good and we were busting at the seams by the time we were done. It’s nice to sit and have a dinner which lasted for an hour an half without having the kids under foot. After dinner, we went to the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre and saw the musical Cats. I had seen it 14 years ago back in college, but Jennifer had never seen it. My big beef about Cats has always been that it doesn’t have a plot. It’s just a collection of songs about cats. We enjoyed the night out, but both of us just couldn’t get into Cats. Perhaps it’s because we are “dog people”.

Happy Birthday To Me

Today was my 32nd birthday. We didn’t do much today. We mainly cleaned the house for Aunt Marci’s arrival. Jennifer and Abby made me a football cake. It was Abby’s idea for the cake to be shaped like a football. This day in history: 20 years ago I got my first computer for my birthday, a Commodore 64. Ironically I also received my first Electronic Arts game: Bill Budge’s Pinball Construction Set.

Abby went to one of the neighbor’s birthday party today. They were supposed to dress up as pirates, but Abby dressed up as a princess.

The fans drying the kitchen are driving us crazy because they are so loud. We’ve resorted to watching TV upstairs just to escape the constant noise. Today I equated it to Chinese water torture.
