Weekend Catch-up

Trying to get caught up with what all has been happening over the last few days. A lot of resting a relaxing, except for Saturday morning. I went and played flag football with some of the guys at work. They play on a regular basis and I’m going to try and make it when ever I can, so I can get some sort of exercise. Even though we played 10 a.m. until noon, it was sweltering hot. Near the end I was dragging my feet before and during plays. Had lots of fun and have been very sore and sun burned for the past two days.

To relax the past few days I’ve just been playing Jak II and Jennifer has been working on Emily’s baby scrap book. We go upstairs and work up in the office. That has lead to trouble with Abby sneaking out of her room and getting into trouble. Friday she snuck out and got into Jennifer’s make-up. She spilled it on the floor and then blamed it on Emily even though Emily had been asleep for a couple of hours.

I saw Kill Bill, Volume I this weekend. Quentin Tarantino is an amazing director. Some of the shots are astonishing. The way he blends the music to what is going on in each shot is perfect. Can’t wait until Volume II comes out on DVD next month. It’s already in my Netflix queue.

Today Jennifer and the girls started attending Vacation Bible School up at church. Jennifer is doing games with the kids while Abby attends the classes. Emily is staying in the nursery. Because of the problems we are having with Abby about getting out of her room at night, she hasn’t been getting a good night’s rest. This morning, she was tired and kept crying at Vacation Bible School. She had to sit up with Jennifer for a while until she calmed down and then she joined her class later.

Today’s picture is from the set of pictures that my grandmother sent me from when Jennifer and the girls visited them in East Texas last month. Abby is showing off the new purse that MaMaw made for her.

First Day Off

Well, today was a momentous occasion. It was the first day I hadn’t see the inside of Tiburon since May 16th. Forty-one straight days of working. Isn’t the game industry grand? I guess no news is good news from work and we will have sent the game off to Central Quality Control at EA-Redwood Shores (EARS) in San Francisco.

Since it was my first day off, I was given my Father’s Day/Birthday gift from Jennifer and the girls: an Onkyo Stereo Receiver, with 6.1 surround sound. I got it all hooked up today. Now I just need a good set of speakers. I currently only have 3. Since the ultimate goal is to start watching more movies, today we signed up for Netflix, where you get DVD’s mailed to you. You have three checked out at a time and when you send them back, they send you the next movie on your list.

The only thing we did today was wash Jennifer’s car. Today’s picture is from that event. Emily was pretty funny. She would have the rag in one hand but she wouldn’t use it. She would use her bare hand to wash the car.

The Plane Trip

The day started early at 4:00 a.m. We had to wake up the kids and get them into the car. Their plane took off at 6:50 a.m. I got them safely onto the plane and Jennifer called from Houston when they arrived. She reported that the girls did “okay” on the flight. They kept wanting to get out of their seat and playing with the person who was sitting behind them. Jennifer took the digital camera and will be sending pictures back from the trip that I will post here.

I haven’t been feeling well all day. I left work early and crashed on our sofa for several hours. I woke up in a cold sweat and I haven’t eaten anything all day. I will be going to bed early and hopefully it will pass in the morning.

Abby’s Sick

Worked late tonight in order to get in a new version of the Radio Show data. It’s a pretty amazing feature and can’t wait until other people can listen to it. The people calling into the Radio Show was finally in so I got to hear myself calling into the Tony Bruno show. That was pretty cool.

Abby’s sick again. It’s too bad because she’s going to miss her final day of school tomorrow. Jennifer has a church meeting tomorrow morning, so I’m going to stay home with her until she gets home.

Baseball Day

Day off from work today as George was in town visiting. We didn’t do much. We scoured the Internet to find a minor league baseball game to go to. Unfortunately the Orlando minor league baseball team moved to Montgomery Alabama last year and they were renamed the “Biscuits“. All the other games were too far away. We thought about going to an Orlando Predators Arena Football game, but ironically, they were playing in Austin today.

Instead, we stayed home and played MVP Baseball all day. I finally hit my first home run. I really hope I had more time to play MVP more often, but work is currently cutting into all my free time right now. Perhaps in July once our busy time is over with. It’s a pretty addictive game.

The kids jumped around the house all day today. They were even more rambunctious since we had company. Today’s picture was taken while Emily was in the bath tub.

Water Day

Today was “water day” at Abby’s school. She got to go to school in her bathing suit. She said there was a water slide and a bounce house to jump in. Next week is Abby’s last week of pre-school. Next year we are going to be moving her to a school closer to us. She will also be going three days a week for 5 hours. She currently only goes two days a week of 3 hours.

George came by work and I showed him the current state of Madden. I left work early to show George the new house. We ordered in food and got caught up with his move closer into downtown Houston and other mutual friends from school. George and I usually play NCAA football or a baseball league computer game and pass the files back and forth. I felt like we needed to start up another one while he was here, but we just came to the realization that we are both way too busy now a days that we just don’t have time. Hopefully we can both settle down and get back to playing another league in the near future.

Today’s picture is from the Easter Egg Hunt a few months ago.

Bonus Day

Today we got our bonuses for the year at work, or as Jennifer calls it “her salary for the year”. It was really good like always. EA rewards their programmers with really nice bonuses each year.

While shopping at Target today, Jennifer bought some cabinet knobs for the kitchen. While in that isle, Abby found some butterfly knobs that she told Jennifer she wanted. Jennifer asked, “Why do you want these?” Abby’s reply, “I want them for the knobs on my closet.” Pretty good reasoning for a three-year-old, so she bought them.

Today’s picture is of myself getting a very big hug from Emily.

Sale of a Video Card

Home at a decent hour today. Too many hours at work. I had to escape. I missed seeing the kids so I got home before they were going to bed.

Right before I bought the two new Dell computers, I was planning on building my own computer. I bought an ATI All-In-Wonder 9000 in anticipation of building the new computer. I thought I was going to be able to put it in my old computer before buying a new motherboard. Unfortunately it required a 2x AGP slot and the old computer just had a 1x AGP slot. I didn’t even know there were different speeds of AGP slots when I bought the card. Anyway, since I bought the new computers it made the video card obsolete, so I decided to try and get my money back by selling it on eBay. I sent in the rebate and then I was able to see it for $115 on eBay. There were no bids all week and finally during the last hour someone put in a bid. Now I’m just waiting for the money to arrive.

Today’s picture is from Emily playing around the house. Lately she’s been hiding in the pantry and popping out with this really funny expression on her face.

Garbage Can Blues

Another long day at work. I’ve been putting the long hours in because this weekend I’m being left alone with the kids as Jennifer treks off to a church retreat. That’s right, I will be left all alone with the kids almost all weekend.

Yesterday morning a note was left on our large garbage can by the garbage men. Apparently we aren’t supposed to have garbage cans over 32 gallons. We have one that is 50 gallons that we bought in Austin and moved here with us. We’ve been using it for five months now. What made them all of a sudden not like our garbage can?

Today was Abby’s school picture. I will scan it in and post it here once we get it in. At home, Abby’s been not wanting to get her picture taken lately as evident by today’s picture at the beach. You tell her to say “cheese” and she says “no” and turns away from the camera.

Sitting in Traffic

Believe it or not, but it’s almost 1:00 in the morning and I’m currently sitting in the middle of I-4 in deadlock traffic. You got to love laptop computers. I’m able to write this since the traffic is not moving at all. I think they are doing road construction and have halted traffic all together. You would know that it would be the exit right before I need to get off. Another amazing thing, I’m in the middle of I-4 between the Lake Mary and Heathrow exit and there’s a wireless computer network which is asking me for a password.

Not much happened today. Abby and Emily are not feeling well. Jennifer thinks it’s after effects from getting a little too much sun at the beach on Saturday. The didn’t get sunburned, but they are a little cranky.

I spent most of my day not sitting at my desk. We don’t have enough GameCube development kits to go around, so we have one at a common station that has to be shared by the people who aren’t lucky enough to have a dev kit at their desk. Ironically none of the lead programmers have GameCube dev kits.

Today’s picture is still from the beach.
