Mickey’s Not So Scarry Halloween Party

Today we went and toured the RDV Sportsplex for a new place to go work out. Tiburon is moving to a new building in December which is directly across the street from the place where the Orlando Magic train. This gave them an opportunity to bring their gym up to the level of other EA studios. Currently Tiburon subsidizes our YMCA membership, but this will end once the deal with the RDV starts. It looks like we are going to cancel our YMCA membership and I’m going to join the RDV by myself since it is going to be pretty expensive for the kids to join.

Tonight was our trip to Disney’s Magic Kingdom for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. The kids get to dress up in their costumes, ride the rides, get candy, and watch some fireworks. This year Abby was a Rose Princess and Emily was a Mermaid Princess. The weather turned out to be great as it is starting to turn cooler. The fireworks show was amazing as we had a good spot right in front of Cinderella’s Castle. Abby and Emily both had fun, but the evening was pretty much a bunch of errors for the parents. First we got a quarter of the way to Disney World and we realized we forgot the tickets, so we had to turn around during rush hour traffic and go back and get them. The kids got tired of wearing their costumes and we brought Emily’s clothes, but we didn’t bring any for Abby, so we had to buy a T-shirt and shorts from the gift shop for Abby. Then, I forgot to put the kids’ juice in the ice chest, so this led to buying some juice in the park which ended up spilled in the bottom of the stroller, getting everything wet. Besides all that, overall it was a great night. Emily passed out in Jennifer’s arms around 10:00 so we started taking turns riding some rides with Abby and then headed home around 11:00.

I Poopie

Abby has the whole week off from school so I took the whole week off from work as well. It’s been nice just being at home and hanging out with the family. It’s like having a nice long extended weekend.

Yesterday there wasn’t much to do because it rained all day. For dinner we packed up into the Sequoia and went to Chuck E. Cheese’s. The kids enjoyed running wild. It’s like this place has become the only restaurant that we can take the kids to.

Today we started by going to work out at the YMCA. Later on, I stayed home with the kids while Jennifer ran some errands. It’s amazing how communicative Emily has gotten. Today she walked up to me and said, “I poopie”. I said, “All right, let’s go change your diaper.” She walked off to her bedroom and started to climb up onto the diaper changing table herself. I suppose the next thing I need to do is train her to change the diaper herself.

Today’s picture is more from Sunday’s putt-putt excursion. This is pretty much how the game went, Abby and Emily running around trying to get the golf balls into the hole.

Putt Putt

Today we went and played putt-putt golf. Abby did pretty good for her first time playing. Emily didn’t do too bad either. We had a huge group of seven people ahead of us who we deemed “The Slowest People in the World”. Emily really wasn’t equipped with the patients to wait for them to play.

Borie

Tonight Jennifer went to a scrapbooking party with some of the women from church, leaving me with the kids. Once she was gone, Emily sat down and watched TV while Abby and I kick around this little toy soccer ball. Once Emily went to bed, Abby and I went upstairs and she watched me play a new game I got the other day Sly 2.

I’m currently watching the Dodgers and Giants play baseball. I was surprised the other day when I saw that the Astros were suddenly in the lead of the National League Wild Card race. The Giants and Astros are tied for the wild card spot and the Astros won today so if the Giants lose, the Astros will be the sole owners of the wild card spot with two games left to play.

Today’s picture is of Emily with a Dora backpack. Emily has become obsessed with watching Dora the Explorer. This is amazing because Abby didn’t really start liking that show until she was around three years old. She doesn’t quite know how to say “Dora” yet, so she says something more like “Borie” when she sees Dora on the TV or when she dances to the theme song.

First Softball Game

Today was our first softball game with the league that I play with through work. This was the first time I played in four years since playing with Atomic Games. We didn’t up winning, but it was a very good game. We lost 13-11. We were down 8-0 after one and a half innings. During the bottom of the second I had a good hit to kick off our two out rally and we came back and tied it up 8-8. In the third we went up 10-8, but they had a rally in the fifth inning which put them up 13-8. We tried to come back in the sixth and seventh innings, but it wasn’t enough. I played second base and I help turn a good 6-4-3 double play during the sixth inning.

Tonight was the season premiere of CSI: NY. I’m a big fan of the original CSI. I tried watching CSI: Miami, but after a while I just couldn’t stand David Caruso’s character. I used to like him when he was on NYPD Blue, but his character just didn’t have any depth. Anyway, CSI: NY was okay. I really love Gary Sinise as an actor ever since he was in Stephen King’s The Stand and, of coarse, Forest Gump. Hopefully the show will pan out. I thought tonight’s episode was a little slow.

Tonight’s picture is of Abby and Emily giving each other a hug. Just heard today that Hurricane Jeanne might actually be heading our way this weekend. I will keep everyone updated.

Hurricane Lucas and Connor

The hurricane is moving closer. The latest projections now have it going directly over Orlando. We will start feeling the effects from the storm on Saturday morning. Abby’s school was canceled on Friday and I’ve gone ahead and told work that I won’t be coming in on that day either so that we can start getting ready for the storm.

Jennifer went out for supplies earlier in the day. She was going to go to Home Depot, but she couldn’t find a place to park. We’ve heard reports of people waiting in line for three hours to get plywood. Jennifer went to a BP gas station to fill up her car this afternoon and they were out of gas.

Tonight our neighbors from across the street, Lucas and Connor, came over to visit while their mom went shopping for supplies for the storm. You can see from today’s picture that it was like the hurricane arrived early to our play room.

Joining the YMCA

Yesterday we joined the YMCA again. Jennifer has been desperately been seeking something for her and the kids to do on the days that Abby doesn’t go to school. Her plan is to go work out at “the Y” while the kids play in the nursery. I was hoping to get a little more in shape so that when I go play flag football at work, I won’t be hobbling home.

That afternoon we went swimming at the YMCA’s pool. It’s amazing how much Emily loves the water. Meanwhile her older sister was screaming her head off when we removed her floating vest. We’ve always had a feeling that Emily would take to the water because in the bath tub she loves putting her head underwater, with today’s picture as evidence.

Emily is starting to understand us more and more. Today I asked her if she needed her diaper changed and she ran into her room, climbed up on her changing table and laid down waiting for me to change her. It was a little scary.

Emily in the Playroom with a Cycling Trophy

Today started off with us all going to Peach Valley Cafe once again for breakfast. The girls are doing better and better each time we go. This time they sat at the table without much fuss at all. Maybe we can start expanding this to lunch and dinner. We’ll have to see, but I’m skeptical.

This afternoon I picked up George from the airport. He’s in town for training as part of his job with PriceWaterhouseCoopers. He came in a couple of days early so that he could visit. I’m going to take off from work tomorrow and we are going to go to Universal Studios.

Today’s picture is from about a year ago when Abby and Emily were better friends. It turns out that Emily has had enough of Abby’s torture as of late. Poppy had given Abby a cycling trophy when they visited this summer. Today Emily took the trophy and whacked Abby on top of the head with the marble base. No blood was shed, and Emily was sorry that she hit her sister on the head.

Madden Wrap Party

Yesterday we attended the Madden 2005 Release Party at a bar, Rhythm & Flow, in downtown Orlando. Jennifer finally got to meet a friend from work and his wife, Tom and Tina Carbone. It was good to get away from the kids and go out for a drink downtown. Meanwhile, Abby and Emily went across the street and stayed with one of our neighbors. Jane is a single mother with two young boys, five and four years old, Connor and Lucas. Abby often plays with them in the evenings after dinner. Jane reported that Emily was the best behaved of all of them. She had her blanket and milk ripped away from her, but she didn’t cry or put up a fuss.

This morning I went and played flag football with some of the guys from work again. This time I came prepared, I had Jennifer buy a water jug the other day. One of the main problems last time was warm water. This time I had nice cold water the whole time I was there. It was still extremely hot and we didn’t last very long, just over an hour. I came limping home, I fell twice jamming my knee into the ground and somehow I hurt my ribs. I’ve come to the conclusion that if I was in a little better shape, I wouldn’t come limping home each time I play.

We watched the movie Matchstick Men this evening. It was a good movie starring Nicholas Cage. He plays a conman with an excessive compulsive disorder, who discovers he has a fourteen year old daughter, he’s never met. I thought the movie dragged in a few places, but was overall good. It was a little predictable and I had the movie figured out about half way through.

Today’s picture is of Emily from last summer right after she started crawling. I chose this picture because she is playing with Dora the Explorer, which is one of Abby’s favorite shows. Lately when Emily sees Dora on the television, she says, “Dora!” Now that I’ve seen this picture, I realize that Abby’s has been training her sister to like Dora all along.

Replacing the Floor

We heard back from State Farm Insurance yesterday about replacing our floors. It turns out that they are going to go ahead and replace the entire floor instead of making us try and match it up. This is great news and Jennifer is already looking at perhaps changing to a different type of wood for the floor and changing it so that it isn’t a floated floor so we don’t have a similar problem in the future. She also wants to get it laid out on the diagonal instead of straight across the floor, which is how our house in Round Rock had its floors.

Today’s picture is another classic picture from when Abby was around the age Emily is now. In fact, we have Emily wearing the same outfit that Abby is wearing in this picture. The picture also shows what our hardwood floors looked like back in Round Rock.
