Sale of a Video Card

Home at a decent hour today. Too many hours at work. I had to escape. I missed seeing the kids so I got home before they were going to bed.

Right before I bought the two new Dell computers, I was planning on building my own computer. I bought an ATI All-In-Wonder 9000 in anticipation of building the new computer. I thought I was going to be able to put it in my old computer before buying a new motherboard. Unfortunately it required a 2x AGP slot and the old computer just had a 1x AGP slot. I didn’t even know there were different speeds of AGP slots when I bought the card. Anyway, since I bought the new computers it made the video card obsolete, so I decided to try and get my money back by selling it on eBay. I sent in the rebate and then I was able to see it for $115 on eBay. There were no bids all week and finally during the last hour someone put in a bid. Now I’m just waiting for the money to arrive.

Today’s picture is from Emily playing around the house. Lately she’s been hiding in the pantry and popping out with this really funny expression on her face.

Sitting in Traffic

Believe it or not, but it’s almost 1:00 in the morning and I’m currently sitting in the middle of I-4 in deadlock traffic. You got to love laptop computers. I’m able to write this since the traffic is not moving at all. I think they are doing road construction and have halted traffic all together. You would know that it would be the exit right before I need to get off. Another amazing thing, I’m in the middle of I-4 between the Lake Mary and Heathrow exit and there’s a wireless computer network which is asking me for a password.

Not much happened today. Abby and Emily are not feeling well. Jennifer thinks it’s after effects from getting a little too much sun at the beach on Saturday. The didn’t get sunburned, but they are a little cranky.

I spent most of my day not sitting at my desk. We don’t have enough GameCube development kits to go around, so we have one at a common station that has to be shared by the people who aren’t lucky enough to have a dev kit at their desk. Ironically none of the lead programmers have GameCube dev kits.

Today’s picture is still from the beach.

Is EA Moving Downtown?

Jennifer went to a brunch with her Moms Church group today. She thought it was funny that a lot of people kept asking her about the news of Electronic Arts constructing a new building downtown. They kept asking about the 700 jobs that would be brought to the area. It turns out that there was another article in the Orlando Sentinel this weekend. The Florida House and Senate approved a $4.2 million increase to the University of Central Florida‘s budget to create a co-op between UCF and Electronic Arts. As far as I know, no final decision has been made on where we are building the building. From what I’ve heard they want to grow Tiburon into the size of EA Canada over the next five years. I can only guess that that is where the news reports are getting the 700 jobs from.

After brunch and Abby’s school, it was off to the park again. Amazing how much Jennifer and the girls have been going down to the park since we bought the bike buggy. This is three days in a row. I guess it was worth the money just so that they would get out of the house and get some sun.

I had fun playing MVP Baseball at lunch today. They won’t let us bring laptops to work so at lunch I take mine down to the atrium and set it up to play MVP Baseball or work on the web site while I eat.

Today’s picture is of Emily while she and Abby were playing dress-up.

New Best Friends

Today Jennifer and the girls went to the park in the new bike buggy. Abby once again met a new “best friend”. Abby was amazed by all the kids playing soccer. We may have to get her into soccer next year. I think she would probably be pretty good at it.

Today was the first manditory twelve hour day at work and it really felt like a long day. At least I’m home at a reasonable hour.

Today’s picture is from last week’s Easter egg hunt: me and Emily walking down by the lake in Winter Park.

Madden 2005 Screenshots

Electronic Arts has officially announced Madden NFL 2005 with a series of screen shots. With that announcement, I can now reveal that I have moved over from being the lead on the PC product to one of the leads for the console version. I am in charge of UI and Franchise. More information to come once EA has officially announced the feature set.

Easter Pictures

Today at work I got my voice recorded for a new feature in Madden NFL 2005. I can’t mention the new feature yet, but hopefully EA will announce the feature set at E3 in a couple of weeks. Then, I will fill in the details. It was pretty cool, but I wasn’t given the script ahead of time so the first few takes were pretty rough as I got used to reading my lines.

Update on the Great Baseboard Painting Project: the dining room is complete. Now only the living room, kitchen and hallways are left. Not too bad for only working on it for a week.

Jennifer has been flattered lately because people at church are starting to notice the weight she has lost. She’s lost 30 pounds over the past three months.

We got our Easter pictures back from our photographer. I’ve scanned them in and I present the best ones here. Photographs were taken by Jennifer Adams.

First Day of the Rest of Alpha

Today was the first day of Alpha and it was a much better pace than the past week. I actually left around 6:00 p.m. and was able to eat dinner with my family. We are still on mandated 10 hour days, so I’m going to start going in at 8:00 a.m. in order to leave in order to have dinner with Jennifer and the kids. We have been promised this weekend off as well.

Here’s another picture from the Easter egg hunt last Saturday. Emily is too small to jump in the Bounce House, but she can have fun, jumping on the outside.

Manic Monday

After promising to do daily entries yesterday, I have decided that my family isn’t as interesting as Tom’s. However, I will still give it a try.

Madden 2005 has finally made it to Alpha. We are in the home stretch now. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but at least we are now pretty much feature complete and we are now switching gears into a bug fixing mode.

Jennifer has started painting all the baseboards in the new house. The trim between the hardwood floor and the baseboards is a wood color which matches the floor. Jennifer thinks this would look better as white, matching the baseboard. She’s done a section of it and I agree. The only problem is that I think it’s going to take her forever because she can only paint while the girls are asleep. We’ll see how long it take her.

Today’s picture is from Saturday’s Easter Egg hunt that was put on by church. Emily is enjoying opening up all of her Easter Eggs.

New Tiburon Office & Microsoft Calls It Quits

Today it was released in the local Orlando Sentinel that Electronic ArtsTiburon is being wooed by the city of Orlando to build our new building downtown.

It was also announced today that Microsoft has decided to cancel its next iteration of sports games. This is good news for EA, since that will undoubtedly increase our market share on the XBox since we won’t have competition for their sports titles.
