Isabelle Loves the Night Life

Another rough Isabelle night. The girl is definitely more awake at night than during the day. During the day she’ll just sit in her bouncer or swing and sleep away. The occasional cry for more food will go out, which will get fulfilled and back to sleep she goes. Apparently at night is when it’s time to look around. At night the cry will go out and food will be brought to her. Then, I will sit in the rocking chair with her for about an hour while she just looks around at nothing in particular.

Sitting up with Isabelle wouldn’t have been so bad if I didn’t have to get up at 5:15 this morning to take Nana and Poppy to the airport. It was poring down rain as the outer bands of Tropical Storm Arleen were hitting Central Florida. Nana and Poppy made their flight and made it back to Shreveport with their luggage this time. Thanks Nana and Poppy for coming to visit and watching Abby and Emily while Jennifer and I took care of Isabelle.

Today’s picture is from the big bike swap a couple of days ago. Emily is happy to be up and going on Abby’s old bike.

Radio

Tonight we watched the movie Radio. Cuba Gooding Jr. portrays a retarded man who is befriended by the head football coach (Ed Harris) of a small South Carolina town in the 70’s. I didn’t like the movie all that much. I thought it was a little too cute and there wasn’t much conflict to it. I kept waiting for the big “the retarded guy screws up and the whole town is mad at him scene”, but was disappointed when it never did happen. I just didn’t think there was much substance to the movie.

Shark Girl & Lava Girl

It was another rough night last night. I was up several times and ended up rocking Isabelle for about an hour trying to get her to go to sleep. Then, I was up at 6:00 when Isabelle’s crying woke Abby and Emily up. So, not much sleep is happening in Frenchville.

This morning we packed up the whole group and headed to Peach Valley Café in order to show Nana and Poppy where we each every Saturday morning, since they have to leave tomorrow. We had a good breakfast. Abby and Emily acted well and Isabelle slept the entire time.

After lunch Poppy, Abby, and myself headed out to The Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl in 3D. It was a pretty corny movie, but Abby seemed to like it. The 3D effects were fairly lame, with only a few good areas. Also, after a while, the 3D effects were giving me a headache. After the movie, Abby and Emily ran around the house with the 3D glasses on pretending they were Shark Girl and Lava Girl.

After dinner I took Nana and Poppy up to my work so that they could see the new building we moved into at the beginning of the year. They were amazed at how much we had grown since I gave them a tour a year and a half ago when they were here last.

Today’s picture is from when we were in the hospital the first day when Isabelle was born and Nana and Emily were visiting.

Some Nights Are Good, Some Are Bad

Our first night home wasn’t too bad. Isabelle was up at 1:00 a.m., but actually slept through to 4:30 a.m. Nana and Poppy took Abby and Emily to the mall and entertained them while Jennifer and I took care of Isabelle. It’s been nice having them here. We are not looking forward to Saturday, when Nana and Poppy go home.

Last night wasn’t good. We were up several times last night. Jennifer didn’t get much sleep and I awaken several times last night for my duties, which was mainly changing diapers.

Homeward Bound

Last night Nana and Poppy brought Emily and Abby up to meet their new sister. Abby was very interested in taking care of the baby, but Emily could really care less. She was more interested in jumping on the bed.

You can tell Isabelle has her days and nights mixed up. She’s doing a lot of sleeping during the day and then she’s up looking around at night. Last night I did a lot of walking around to comfort her while Jennifer tried to get some sleep. We had a horrible night last night, but not because of Isabelle. The walls in the hospital were very thin and between the new parents next door with the baby that cried every fifteen minutes and the guy on the other side of us that was snoring, we got no sleep. Isabelle was great. Our neighbors were horrible.

We kept insisting to the nurses and doctors that we were leaving today. With Emily we were in the hospital for four days and with Isabelle, it was only one day. Almost exactly 24 hours since she was born and we were headed home.

Meanwhile at home Nana and Poppy have been taking care of Abby and Emily. They went to the store and bought a Slip and Slide. They had fun getting all wet in the back yard. They’ve been doing a lot of swinging on the new play gym as well. Today we decided to switch bicycles between the girls. Emily’s legs have been too small to reach the tricycle’s pedals, so Abby took Emily’s big tricycle and Emily started using Abby’s bike. Emily took to the bike like a fish to water. She was pedaling down the street like a pro. The only problem was that she didn’t like wearing her bicycle helmet.

Welcome Isabelle

Isabelle Paige French joined our family at 12:27 p.m. today. She weighed 6 lbs. 10 oz. and was 20 inches long.

We arrived at the hospital this morning at 6:00 a.m. for our appointment to be induced even though we didn’t get back from picking up my parents from the airport until 1:00 a.m.

Things were progressing pretty slow around 11:30 a.m., so I went out to grab a bite to eat. It’s usually not a good idea to eat in front of your wife while she’s trying to give birth. Around 12:10 p.m. I got a call on my cell phone that I had better hurry up because the baby was going to be here soon. Fortunately, I was just around the corner and I zipped back up to the delivery room. The midwife appeared soon after I got back. A few pushes and Isabelle was here.

I will follow up with more pictures, but I had to get in the obligatory scale shot which I also have for Abby and Emily.

The Play Gym Arrives

Five days and counting. Jennifer is going to be induced on Monday, if she doesn’t go into labor before then. I can’t believe it’s already here. My parents are flying in Sunday to help us out with Abby and Emily while we are at the hospital. This week has gone by fast and Monday will be here before I know it.

It’s been a pretty busy week. On Thursday, Jennifer took the girls to the beach in order to get their picture taken by a photographer friend of ours. She gave us the pictures digitally, so Jennifer will be putting them up on dotPhoto or one of the other picture sites so that anyone who wants one can order a copy.

On Friday, the play gym that we ordered arrived and they started to install it. They ran into a snag while installing it: our back yard isn’t level and they had to use brink pavers to set part of this up. We weren’t comfortable with that, so we are gong to get that part of the yard leveled and they are going to come back and set the play gym back into the leveled area. So, even though it’s put together in today’s picture, there’s more work to be done.

The last two days Abby has been going to gymnastics in order to get her out of the house. She’s been really liking it and she’s been telling me a lot about her exploits on the “high bar”. She told me today that a clown came and painted their faces.

We’ve had great success on the Emily potty training front. She’s been dry for two days now. She gets up in the morning and goes right to the potty and tinkles. She now will tell us that she needs to “go poop on the potty” and runs off into the bathroom. I’m pretty impressed that she’s caught on so fast. Hopefully we won’t have a relapses once the new baby arrives.

Jennifer’s Baby Shower

Today the neighbors threw Jennifer a baby shower. I came home early from work to watch the kids and she walked next door for dinner and socializing. She had a great time and we received several new outfits for the baby. Jennifer is counting down the minutes until the baby arrives. She’s definitely ready. She said that it was nice to get out of the house, away from the children, and have a chance to talk with the neighbors.

Now that Abby is out of pre-school, Jennifer has been desperate to keep Abby and Emily occupied. Abby and Emily individually are good and play well. When you get them together and then throw Austin into the mix, it’s total chaos around the house.

This past weekend I picked up The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap for the Game Boy Advance. I was looking for a game that I could play on my GBA while sitting around the house because I haven’t had much luck making it up to my computer in order to finish Half Life. So far it has many elements which are throw back to the old Nintendo Legend of Zelda, but with better graphics.

Today’s picture is of Austin patiently waiting at the back door to go outside and potty.

Abby Sings Her Heart Out

It was a rough day at work trying to get our E3 presentation together. We pulled an all nighter and I didn’t head home until 10:30 this morning, but it’s done and on it’s way to Los Angeles. E3 starts tomorrow and hopefully we will start getting some press this week.

I slept the afternoon away and then headed out to Abby’s preschool graduation ceremony. She doesn’t graduate this year, but she was singing along with the other kids in her class. She didn’t have a meltdown as she has in the past, because we now make sure and let her know we will be in the audience and make a point of waving to her so she knows we are there. As you can see from the video, when she wants to sing, she really puts all of her heart into it. If you are having trouble picking her out, she’s in the lower right hand corner.

Xbox 360 Unveiled

Abby had a rough day today. Somehow while playing with Austin, she bumped her tooth and it pushed it up a tiny bit and her gums are all bruised. Jennifer is going to call the dentist tomorrow to check whether or not she needs to bring her in. Another funny incident was when Abby exclaimed that Austin had tinkled on the floor. Jennifer looked over to where she was pointing and Austin was licking it up. Jennifer thought that was odd and it turned out that Abby had spilled juice on the floor and was blaming it on the dog.

Today Microsoft unveiled the system that I’m working to bring Madden to for launch: the Xbox 360. They debuted the system with a special on MTV, which was pretty stupid. You can check out another concept video for Madden NFL 06 Xbox 360 on MTV’s site.
